Kayla Hixon
Painter and muralist. Bitterroot Valley, Montana. Signed KH.
Kayla is a painter and muralist working in Montana's Bitterroot Valley under the name Elemental Dreamworks. She paints in oil, acrylic, and metal, and her work blends moody monochromes with bursts of color that catch you off guard in the best way. Every piece tells a story, sometimes loud, sometimes quiet, but always real.
Feel something, think something, maybe even smile.
Much of her work begins with stone. Kayla paints classical statues, angels, and gods in careful shades of gray, then breaks the stillness: a cascade of neon drips behind a weathered angel, gold geometry framing a pair of wings, a castle built into the crown of a cracked marble bust, a sun held aloft on a figure covered in graffiti. The marble stays calm. The color does not.
Her wildlife work comes from the same instinct. A bison breathing through a cloud of dust, a bear looking straight at you, a white horse bowing its head, a tiger stepping into a beam of light. She paints animals with weight and presence, usually in black and white, so the eyes do the talking. Then, now and then, she lets an owl or a macaw explode into full color.
Whether it's a portrait that feels like it's staring straight through you or a mural that changes a whole room, Kayla's art is about connection, feeling, and the beauty in being human.
